The Palace was built in Viana do Castelo, Portugal, beyond the city walls, where there is an empty space used as a square. Since the disposition of the windows is not regular, as it was supposed, but is tighter in the centre, it opens the possibility of the façade creating an illusion of an empty space.
A relationship with another baroque façade was created/established in the research process – Santa Susana’s church in Rome – where the principle is the same, but in the opposite way.
This proposal reading guide of the façade allows to understand not just the physical existence, but also how reality is manipulated to be seen and to create illusory spaces.
